Ministry Of Health Lash Back At TT Post
A day after tt post workers were evicted from their Arouca Branch building by officials from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry is now saying every effort was made to arrive at amicable decision.
In a release from the Ministry, they stated that the old Arouca Post Office building, located at Eastern Main Road, Arouca was initially assigned to them since before 2005.
The building was required to relocate the Ministry of Health’s Insect Vector Control Division in order to provide the staff with better facilities to perform their duties. The building was assigned to the Ministry of Health by the Property and Real Estate Service Division of the Ministry of Public Administration.
The release further stated that on April 20th 2010, the Ministry received confirmation from the Property and Real Estate Service Division to proceed to occupy building.
The Ministry of Health wishes to assure that several requests were made to the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Workers Union, the previous occupants of the building to vacate the premises, including 21 days notice. The Ministry of Health also met with the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Workers Union and before the end of the period, and agreed to a 14-day extension.
The final notice was by letter to the President of the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Workers Union on October 20th 2010, advising that the Ministry of Health will be taking possession of the building on Thursday October 21st 2010.
But yesterday, Union Secretary of TT Post, Reginald Crichlow claimed that the Union was not given enough time to leave the premises.
He said that he had written to the Minister of Public Utilities Emmanuel George and Minister of Public Administration, Rudrawatee Nam Ramgoolam asking for an extension and up to now he hasn’t gotten a response.
