State Boards Finally Appointed
After a marathon session with Cabinet Ministers today Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar finally announced the Heads of State Companies.
They included George Nicholas heading Caribbean Airlines, Omar Khan as chairman of T&TEC, Joseph Remy would head Cipriani Labour College, Plipdeco would be headed by Brigadier Carl Alsonso, Petrotrin to be headed by Lindsay Gillete and TSTT would be headed by Everald Snaggs.
The Prime Minister made it clear that no one will be sitting on more than one board unlike what transpired under the PNM government where persons were on five and six boards. Also no one was appointed as an executive chairman of any board.
The annoucement was made at the Post Cabinet press briefing late this evening where Persad Bissessar says over 300 persons were approved for thirty-eight state companies. The full list she says would be released in due course and those selected were done so under scrupulous considerations.
The business community has been calling for state boards to be announced over the last couple months, the Prime Minister apologised for the delay adding that the final selection was not easy.
The criteria were based on good governance, transparency and accountability.
