Increase In Minimum Wage

The minimum wage will be increased from $9 per hour to $12.50. This announcement was made by Labour Minister Errol Mc Leod last night during the budget debate.
During the budget presentation last week Wednesday Finance Minister Winston Dookeran said the increase in the minimum wage was still being worked out. Minister Mc Leod said with the increase workers would now take home $100 for an eight hour work day. Under the present rate workers take home $72.
He also announced that a new minimum wage board would be appointed by the end of the month and he denied that the People’s Partnership had ever promised a $20 minimum wage.
