$643M For Upgrade Of Roads And Bridges
Six hundred and forty three million dollars has been allocated to upgrade and expand roads and bridges in 2011. This money is allocated under the public sector investment programme.
At the top of the agenda is the continuation of the national highway programme at a cost of $31 million. This will include the reconstruction of eight bridges.
Meanwhile $248 million has been allocated for the Programme for Upgrading Road Efficiency (PURE) in 2011. This will include the construction of lanes, shoulders, walkovers and landslip repair.
Projects under this programme include the extension of the Diego Martin Highway and the construction of an additional lane and shoulder at Uriah Butler Highway northbound from Chaguanas to Radio Beacon. The Port of Spain East/West corridor transportation project will continue at a cost of $250 million. This includes the completion of the Aranguez/El Socorro interchange.
