NWRHA Clamps Down On Stealing

The North West Regional Health Authority is stepping up its zero tolerance policy on the removal of supplies and equipment from public medial institutions.

This follows the recent conviction of a registered mental health nurse for stealing supplies at the St. Ann’s hospital.

Chief Executive Officer of the NWRHA, Judith Baliram-Ramoutar has assured that all reports of larceny will be aggressively pursued.

She says anyone caught removing the authority’s property without authorization will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

She stated that the authority will continue to conduct frequent audits as well as intensify its in-house monitoring and searching of persons and vehicles entering and leaving facilities.

The nurse who was convicted for stealing faces up to three months hard labour for the offence, if she fails to pay a fine of $1,500.

She also stands to lose her job, nursing license and all benefits accrued from her years of service.
