Carnival Groups Disappointed With Douglas

Carnival groups are expressing their disappointment in their Line Minister for not consulting with them before announcing his desire to privatize carnival.

At Tribe’s band launch last Saturday, Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism Dr Lincoln Douglas said he would invite proposals from anyone, including foreigners, who believe they can produce the best carnival as a means to make it more marketable.

They stated they are ready to discuss it.

However they stated they do not accept that the statement was made to initiate discourse.

They said they did not expect such an educated person, new to the job, before familiarizing himself with the intricacies of his portfoloio, would choose this option to begin discussion.

The carnival groups stated that the gathering was carded to be an introductory meeting and no proposals were scheduled to be brought.

They added they were called on short notice so were not given time to put together their proposals.

They then indicated the need for a longer meeting to make their respective presentations. This was why they were displeased with the comments the minister made.

They stated that it was unjust for the minister to make assumptions when he did not take the time to hold a proper meeting with the representatives
