Farmers Feel Disrespected

President of the Sheep and Goat Farmers Association Shiraz Khan is outraged that the Department of Land and Marine Affairs has been reshuffled under another ministry.
The ministry in question…Ministry of Housing.
Khan says farmers have had a contentious relationship with Housing Minister Roodal Moonilal after the bulldozing of crops for housing.
The department was formally under the Ministry of Food Production, Lands and Marine Affairs.
Khan says this is a clear indication that food security and the protection of farmland is not a primary focus.
He says this is a slap in the face to farmers and fishermen.
Khan says this is a decision that has farmers baffled.
Meanwhile… Khan is hopeful that farmers will develop a good rapport with the newly installed Minister of Food Production Devant Maharaj.
…one that will yield positive outcomes…particularly in the area of land tenures.
