The Ministry of Health wishes to provide guidelines on where persons should go to access health care services during the Carnival period.
It also aims to encourage citizens to follow these guidelines to access public health care based on their specific needs and circumstances.
They said these guidelines will prevent the inappropriate use of the emergency department of the various hospitals and district health facilities.
The following are the typical situations that should guide a person when accessing the accident and emergency department of a hospital or district health facility:
Motor Vehicle Accident
Gunshot or Chop Wounds
Severe Bleeding
Asthmatic Attacks
Allergic Reactions
Severe Chest Pain
Near Drowning
Falls or Blows to the Head
High Fevers in Babies and Toddlers
Excessive Vomiting in Adults and Children
Severe Abdominal Pain
Severe Burns
Overdose of Pills
Ingestion of Toxic Substance
District Health Facilities are open twenty-four hours a day, offering accident and emergency and general practice services. District Health Facilties also offer:
Pharmacy Services
Radiology (X-Ray and Ultrasound) Services
Dental Services for Children and Adults at some Facilities
Specialists Clinics for Chronic and or Lifestyle Diseases
Ante-natal and Post-natal Clinics
Family Planning Clinic
Child Health Clinic
Health Promotion Fitness Programmes
