Reports state that Sheldon Sylvester of Williams street was walking along the road way near his home, when a car driven by a Mc Bean Village resident swerved off the road hitting him and two other persons.

Sylvester a construction worker died on the scene, Sheon Jack and Isaiah Mitchell both of William street were rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Where they are warded in a stable condition.

The driver is presently assisting the Couva police with their investigations.

The road fatality figure now stands at 68 for the year.

Seven Eyewitness News was reliably informed that the police were early this morning searching for suspects.

It is reported that while officers visited the area to conduct the search….. They were allegedly faced with gunfire by unknown assailants.

The police alleged the men were using ak47 which is known to be a high powered rifle.

The officers returned fire and this sparked a heavy protest by residents in the area.

During the past few months, several residents left the area as they claimed gunmen who infiltrated the community threatened them and several homes were firebombed.

Several of the residents moved out and requested the services of the HDC in hope that they would be transferred to a different community.

Minister of the People and Social Development, Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh along with several medical personnel conducted a mobilization exercise in the wee hours this morning at Edward street.

The minister said those who agree to be relocated will be housed at the Center for Socially-Displaced People at the Riverside Car Park, East Port-of-Spain, which recently underwent major refurbishment.

Some of the homeless will also be taken to similar facilities at Piparo. 

While the target is to get the majority, if not all, street dwellers off the streets of Port-of-Spain, Ramadharsingh said last night’s exercise is the second part of a pilot project.

In addition to the inter-agency unit that had been implemented to deal with the issue…… Ramadharsingh said his ministry has partnered with the Psychiatric Association, religious organizations and various NGO’s.

He is calling for the mayors across the country to be more involved in his initiative…

In the Caribbean, grassroots and official voices now constitute a regional reparations movement.

UWI recognizes that it is a troublesome call, but it generates considerable public interest.

This discussion will be part of a book launch by Sir Hilary Beckles at the Daaga auditorium in UWI St. Augustine.

Speaking on the Sunrise Morning Show, Attorney General, Anand Ramlogan, said that Dr. Rowley’s actions are to just cause scandal…

The AG re-emphasized that Dr. Rowley failed to show any concern for the reporter mentioned in the emails, or any other matter, when he claimed to have received the emails…

He questioned Dr. Rowley’s motive for not referring the matter to the police…

Five members of Parliament have called on government to launch an investigation into the authenticity of the emails….

While the AG has no problem with it, there is no work yet as to the start of one…

In Parliament last evening Volney said his position, the position of Jack Warner, and the position of other ministers were compromised following similar investigations like the current email probe.

But Ramlogan told WINTV’s morning show that in light of the fact that one of the email addresses anan@gmail.com , does not exist, he finds Volney’s request unnecessary…

And it’s all in an effort to assist the island in reducing seismic risk activities.

The monitoring equipment will be given to the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at the University of the West Indies.

It is expected to be used in the central range fault as part of the Trinidad Central Range Fault Observatory.

Valued over USD$10,000, the monitoring equipment will be just another donation in a number of partnerships that have already taken place between the two governments.

This particular drive to assist in seismic research however, follows the government of Chile’s ongoing commitment to support seismic risk reduction activities in Trinidad.

The ceremony for the donation will take place tomorrow at the Seismic Research Center office in St Augustine at 10:30am.

Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley is expected to be in attendance for the presentation.

Seven Eyewitness News understands that Robbie Portelle and a female relative was at his Diego Martin home when three armed men held them up around midnight.

The men robbed the couple of an undisclosed sum of money and jewellery then proceeded to rape and bugger Portelle’s 29 year old relative.

Portelle was then abducted and bundled into his Nissan Almera.

It was shortly after midnight residents of St. Lucien Road, heard several loud explosions and contacted the West-end police station.

When a team of officers from the Western Division Task Force arrived they found the handyman’s body in the back seat of the car with several gunshot wounds.

Investigations are being led by Snr. Supt. Ishmael David and Insp. Henry Dann of the Western Division.

The star returned home in the last week of April……. But should join his team-mates at the West Indies’ champions trophy preparatory camp, which started on Monday in Bridgetown, Barbados…

Following the Barbados camp, the team will fly to the UK, where they will have a second camp in Cardiff.

Currently, the team is without some members in Barbados, including new ODI Captain…… Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder…

They are all competing in the closing stages of the IPL in India.

Meanwhile…..West Indies coach Ottis Gibson said getting acclimatised quickly is important.

He told the media…… “the hardest thing will be to get used to the conditions early… But we have quite an experienced one-day outfit at the moment, so once we get there and get acclimatised early, we will be okay”…

West Indies also play two warm-up matches in the lead-up to the champions trophy, against Australia and Sri Lanka…

They are placed in Group B for the tournament, alongside South Africa, India and Pakistan with their opening game against Pakistan on June 7^th.

Speaking to the media last night, Al Rawi explained that Opposition Leader, Dr Keith Rowley took the appropriate channels in reporting the matter…

However, he said that nothing was done…

Meanwhile, the Opposition Senator questioned the Prime Minister’s claims of a hacked email account…

He said that the Prime Minister’s example of a fake email from Alicia Hospedales may not necessarily be the same thing…

He further added that the government cannot investigate themselves in this matter…
